On Wednesday, January 13, the DGA East Coast Special Projects Committee hosted a special evening with 1995 DGA Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient James Ivory in the Guild’s offices in New York.

Moderated by East Coast Special Projects Committee Chair Raymond DeFelitta (The Thing About My Folks), Ivory used clips to illustrate several recurring themes in his five decades of filmmaking: the intrigue and love found by the English abroad illustrated by Shakespeare Wallah, Quartet, Heat and Dust, and A Room with a View; the impact of World War II demonstrated by Mr. & Mrs. Bridge, The Remains of the Day and The White Countess; and a theme of the underlying eros in his films, as shown by A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries, The Golden Bowl and Le Divorce.

At the conclusion of panel, Mr. Ivory treated those present to a scene from his soon to be released feature, The City of Your Final Destination.
